My New/Old Pantry Makeover

My Pantry Transformation

I hate to say it, but this closet is also from my Texas home.
The one here in my new Desert Home is tiny...
12 inches deep and has five shelves.

Yesterday I shared my master closet makeover from the Texas home.
Did I mention I miss all the space we had in our old home?
Downsizing means just that... smaller!

So here is the "old" closet makeover...

This was the way my pantry used to look.
Don't laugh because I bet a few of you
have let it get this way too.

The ceiling is WAY high and just look
at what those pesky builders left me with.
What an ugly light fixture!

Hey... this is my pantry guys... not the garage!

The paint was white... but look how
dull it was compared to this new white.
 Also I used a semi gloss instead of FLAT!

We used Dutch Boy paint that has Baking Soda
added to eliminate and prevent odors.
We = I bought, he painted.

So I got busy. I went to WalMart and got this
"happy" shelf liner and some double stick tape.

I must have spent 8 hours in this little room,
measuring, cutting, measuring again and piecing.
Did I mention that it took 9+ rolls?!

Buy the time I was done
I was starting to hallucinate!

I needed to make sure that all the checks lined up.
... 8 long hours with my reading glasses on ...
But just look how nice it is now!

Not laughing now,
are you.

We The Mr.even replaced the light.
I got this at The Home Depot.
Not only cute, but I can see!

In fact I couldn't turn the light on for the
picture because it is so bright!

See any difference???
I sure did...
It even smelled new!

I am sharing this post at Sarah's party.

Thanks for the fun party!

Closet Shelves and Cubbies = Organization!

I have a "new" master bedroom closet.

Okay... so it's not really new,
but it sure feels like it.

~~~
First of all, Hubby painted the walls a semi-gloss vanilla. Sounds boring... but I just wanted it bright and neutral.
It had been painted a FLAT beige/taupe that absorbed all the light. The cheap light fixture, and it's placement, only adds to the problem.
Poor Hubby thought he was only painting. I didn't want to ask for too much all at once.
Ha... he should know better by now... 'cause then I asked him to remove two sections of the clothes rods.
I know this sounds crazy, but he trusts me :)
But it didn't stop there! I convinced him that I needed shoe shelves... he tried to convinced me that I needed fewer shoes.
Marriage is full of compromises.
So... while he was making shoe shelves, I was trying to downsize my shoe "collection".  Shhh... I just had to keep some most of them. You will see where they are in just a minute.
My purses are in these bins.
Two or three in each one.
I used to match my shoes to my purses... something that  no one does much anymore.
Yes, I did get rid of some of those too :(
Miscellaneous things are in
the bins in the top shelf.
Moving from left to right,
to the double clothes rod.
Wondering where those extra shoes are?
Why in that brand new trunk that
I picked up at HomeGoods.
I replaced this plastic bin.
With this decorative trunk.
I am worried that the trunk is too "busy".
What do you think?
Then... moving to the right a little more...
is another bunch of cubbies and bins.
I love organization!
Makes life so much easier...
don't you think?
My socks are sorted by black, white and navy. I also have belts, scarves, and hats in the other bins. Costume jewelry and reading/sunglasses are in the plastic drawer bins.
Of course they are sorted by sub type and also placed in little tiny zip top bags. It makes finding a pair of earrings so easy.
I  will show you the last wall next week...
after I get dresser painted.
Edit: Go here to see next week's post.
Oh... you might be asking where
are Hubby's clothes.
Well... they are in his closet,
of course!
Thanks for stopping by.
I haven't had much time to work on my blog...
but I have been reading yours.
I know that all of you are busy too, but try to look at as many of this weeks participants as you can.
Let them know when you stop by...
that make us all feel good :)
Have You Been Busy?
Have you been busy doing something creative
and having fun at the same time?
Are you feeling like you actually accomplished something that will be appreciated by your family... and you just can't wait to share with all of us here in blogland?  Good for you!
Not me...
I'm not getting that much done... not having much fun... and don't have that much to share.
But that's all gonna change!!!
~~~

I want to join in on Gina's Transformation Thursday, even though I am cheating just a bit by not really having a totally completed transformation to share. Maybe my change in attitude is transformation enough!?

I am done with feeling down about having to move. I will look at this as an adventure... a new chapter in my life. I can do this!

So I'm gonna get crackin'...

My "to do list" for this week is to finish painting the master bathroom's three doors, the trim, two vanities, and the dresser that goes in the closet.

So far only the top has been painted.

Hubby came back home for Christmas and painted the bathroom walls and ceiling a nice semi-gloss vanilla. They were the same neutral color as the rest of the house... not too terrible, but it was FLAT paint! It just sucked up all the light and was full of shadows.

The newly painted side is on the left.

Looks like Hubby forgot to "cut in" before rolling on the new paint. (The door and trim will be painted a bright white so that they will stand out more)

The closet was especially dark. This picture shows the new  paint. I also had him remove some sections of the clothes red. I will show you why next week.

You are going to like what I've done!

Have I mentioned that I hate can't stand... painting?! I just get so frustrated. My DD said it is just because I have a cheap paint brush.

So, tonight I went out and got a quality paint brush. This was the best that Lowe's had. I even splurged on a three pack!

Just kidding...

I got one of these little short, stubby handled guys. It is SO much easier for me to use. The long handles make my hand so tired and I just don't have good control.

Have you ever used one of these?

I also got a  3" brush and some nice skinny foam rollers for the cabinets. Hopefully this project will be finished by week's end and I can show you next week.

Now please go visit Gina and see all the other

~~~
I hope all of you are enjoying your day.
I'll come by and take a peek,
because I love you guys!
