I Made A Ten Foot Tall Shower Curtain!

I want to share how I gave the standard glass shower door

a more custom look by making a shower curtain.

Some of my long time followers may have seen this post

but I know there are many how have not. 

The "Life Is A Journey, Not A Destination" candle
was found at from Tuesday Morning.
It was the inspiration for this bathroom.


This is our hall and guest bathroom. 
It has 10 ft. high ceilings.
So I had to make my own shower curtain. 
I made it out of a tablecloth for 15.00!

These are the SOFTEST turquoise blue bath towels.

The lighting and my camera doesn't do them justice.

My bathroom doesn't get much natural light.

The Oatmeal towels have embroidery and rows

of ruching at the bottom, and they are also

super soft and very absorbent.

The oatmeal/tan towels were on clearance at my Target.

I have been working on getting my guest bathroom,

which is also my guest bathroom, a more

inviting, relaxing atmosphere.

I really didn't like the bare
look of the shower enclosure.
It just looked unfinished and
kind of cold.

OKAY...

Remember the mystery project that I was making

out of that tablecloth that I got  at Marshall's?

It's my TEN foot tall shower curtain!

This tablecloth had gone through quite a few markdowns. It started out at 39.99, and then after a few more is was  15.00!   

I love the colors and

of course the Quatrefoil pattern.

Both are very popular right now.

It is a Quatrefoil pattern in robin egg blue, tan and a
 touch of brown. Both sides look great.

So I grabbed it knowing just what
I would do with it because...
I'm SO clever.

I almost never use a tablecloth
as just that... why that would be boring.
It usually becomes a window treatment!

I layed it out on the floor and cut in half "lengthwise". Of course BUDDY just had to help!

You say that doesn't look 10 feet tall?

Well just read on...

This is a rather average sized hall bathroom,
with a very tall ceiling!

See...

TEN FEET TALL!

I do know that it looks much 

more inviting than it did before.

Look... I have cute little guest towels!

The guest towel stand was found at the Goodwill for only 2.50!

I also have paper towels.

Paper towels and paper cups for sanitary reasons.
Q-tips are in the jar.

And of COURSE I have to have some

cute little birdies!

Midnight Madness at Goodwill

I am proud to say that I'm a card carrying

Goodwill shopper in good standing.

(I have a punch card in every purse.)

But... I never knew about their

Midnight Madness sale. 

Did you?

I just happened to be there when they

 announced that they were closing at

7 p.m. and reopening from 8-midnight. 

Everything (except new items)

would be on sale at 50% off! 

It was my lucky day night!

I arrived back at the store at 8:10

and the parking lot was full, and

every shopping cart was taken!

Well, I would just have to make do.

This baby changing table did not catch

my eye at first glance. (No babies here.)

Hmmm...

How about a potting table?

Not really outdoor material...

but for 10 bucks I couldn't pass on it.

It looked like it had never been used,

but was just a little "loose".

So I asked Hubby for help.

He took it apart and glued the dowels.

Then he tightened up the screws.

I remembered some little black wheels

that I never used on the plastic storage

drawers in my craft room closet.

So, Hubby drilled some holes

and popped in the wheels.

For 10 bucks and very little effort...

this is how  I will be using it!

It is now my dish cart/storage table.

This is where I will be using it!

It fits in the closet where I keep my fabrics,

extra linens, and craft room overflow.

Those nifty little wheels allow me to roll

it in and out for easy access. I can also

roll it into the other room when I am

setting up for a tablescape.

Unique Storage Idea

Everyone is familiar with these

*shoe storage thingies*.

They don't hold very many pairs

of shoes and take up lots of room.

I don't need this anymore.

Not after Hubby built me my

fabulous shoe shelves!

My seldom used/casual shoes

go into this cute trunk.

It is very sturdy and well made,

and is absolutely ginormous inside!

I found it at HomeGoods.

I love that store!

It has real leather trim...

and nice sturdy hardware.

So this is what that *shoe thingy*

is doing now.

It now holds all  some of my old

magazines that I must keep.

It rolls away under my clothes.

It can also go under the bed.

Plastic Surgery and my "Big New Knobs"...

This post is all about change,

and plastic surgery certainly is a change!

I want to share my opinion about my having it... and then show a picture of my new knobs. They are much bigger than the old ones.

First of all let me explain...

At 57 years old (at least until April) things get to drooping. Whenever I mention having a little "repair" done to my face, Hubby tells me I don't need it... and it just wouldn't be a good idea.

Now, I kind of understand the latter. Here is just one of the many reasons why... it seems that I am never, ever, happy with a new haircut. I have to come home and "fix" it. Just think how that would work after plastic surgery!

Okay. I get his point.

But if I casually mention having a B@@B job (I spelled it that way, so I won't get bombarded by search engines), he is not as quick to dismiss the idea.  Humph! 

So anyway, I think for now I will just be repairing and rejuvenating the other old broken down stuff around the house... and not me.

So here are the new knobs...

They are much bigger and than the original ones that came with this unfinished dresser. They are not really white but have a slight beige glaze on them. Aren't they pretty?

The knobs were a lucky find (1/2 off) at Hobby Lobby.  I had originally purchased them for my bathroom cabinets. The beige/white finish inspired me to paint the dresser the same color.

  I first painted it bright white and then glazed it with a light taupe. The dresser is one I've had for over 20 years. I used the semi gloss paint that we used in the bathroom and for the bathroom cabinets.

So I figured it basically cost nothing!

(But I guess now I will have to buy

more knobs for the bathroom cabinets.)

This dresser is in my newly refinished closet that I shared last week. It is on the fourth wall that I did not show... as I was waiting to add this dresser.

I still haven't downsized this section of the closet. These are my really casual clothes. Hopefully it will look better after some organizing.  (I need to color code)

 "A place for everything and

every thing in it's place".

Okay... the closet is a done deal!

The next step in my Master Bathroom redo is to paint the bathroom cabinets. Hopefully that will be ready for next week.

Closet Shelves and Cubbies = Organization!

I have a "new" master bedroom closet.

Okay... so it's not really new,

but it sure feels like it.

First of all, Hubby painted the walls a semi-gloss vanilla. Sounds boring... but I just wanted it bright and neutral.

   

It had been painted a FLAT beige/taupe that absorbed all the light. The cheap light fixture, and it's placement, only adds to the problem.

Poor Hubby thought he was only painting. I didn't want to ask for too much all at once.

Ha... he should know better by now... 'cause then I asked him to remove two sections of the clothes rods.

I know this sounds crazy, but he trusts me :)

But it didn't stop there! I convinced him that I needed shoe shelves... he tried to convinced me that I needed fewer shoes. 

Marriage is full of compromises.

So... while he was making shoe shelves, I was trying to downsize my shoe "collection".  Shhh... I just had to keep some most of them. You will see where they are in just a minute.

My purses are in these bins.
Two or three in each one.

I used to match my shoes to my purses... something that  no one does much anymore.

Yes, I did get rid of some of those too :(

Miscellaneous things are in

the bins in the top shelf.

to the double clothes rod.

Wondering where those extra shoes are?

Why in that brand new trunk that

I picked up at HomeGoods.

I replaced this plastic bin.

With this decorative trunk. 

I am worried that the trunk is too "busy".

What do you think?

Then... moving to the right a little more...

is another bunch of cubbies and bins.

I love organization!

Makes life so much easier...

My socks are sorted by black, white and navy. I also have belts, scarves, and hats in the other bins. Costume jewelry and reading/sunglasses are in the plastic drawer bins.

Of course they are sorted by sub type and also placed in little tiny zip top bags. It makes finding a pair of earrings so easy.

after I get dresser painted.
