Blogging in the Shower

Yes... I blog in the shower.
That is to say  I blog in my head... while in the shower.

I get my best ideas when showering, always have.
Especially now since there are no distractions as the kids are all grown and gone ...
and the Hubby has settled down a bit.

In fact I couldn't get out
of the shower fast enough
to post this!

The only thing is that in the ten minutes it took to get halfway dried off,
and run back in to put on my moisturizer....
I forgot what was so darn important!

That seems to be a theme around here lately.
Forgetting things and losing stuff. Kind of worrisome at times.
I wish everything had a ringer like my cell phone does.

Good grief, I'm not even 60 and I may have another 40 years to go.
I say this because my mother lived to be 97 years old.
But sad to say the last fifteen or so were kind of foggy for her... and me...

~~~
So back to my *epiphany* ... of sorts.
All I was going to say is that blogging makes it easier to share my thoughts and ideas.
Family may love you, but seems they don't want to hear too much about you.
This is not a bad thing, just that they are all very busy.
And I can go on and on, and on and on, and on and on...
~~~

So back to blogging...
I like sharing, but I LOVE
to read other's blogs,
 and it is far less work!

I enjoy "visiting" with each and every one of you.
You all have so much to offer and even though you may have different lifestyles and views on life,
one thing runs true... you all seem to have an inner strength and positive attitude.

I know that not every day is a good one for all, but you set that aside and help to lift the spirits of those who may need it.

Need I say more?

Summer Bedding & Window Treatments

My Spring/Summer lamps.
~~~
As you may already know... I started a master bedroom bedding and window treatment redo two weeks ago. I have a perfectly fine Winter set, but I wanted a lighter feel for the warmer months.
So... here it is August already,
and I still haven't finished!!!
But... that's not the worst part...
Being the procrastinator that I am... I had not purchased all the panels that I needed. So of course Walmart decided to put the curtain panels on clearance ... and now they were all gone!!!
I had enough for the windows but I also wanted to make a bedskirt out of them. So I spent two days going to four different Walmarts before finding the necessary three panels.
~~~

Now I just have to decide what kind of skirt I want. {I just tucked the window panel in between the mattress to get an idea of how it will look}

This picture shows
a gathered skirt
with vertical stripes.
This picture shows the stripes
going horizontally.
~~~
I sure would appreciate any ideas or opinions from any of you talented ladies :)
I will make the skirt longer (20-23") so that it will come up higher and there will not be a gap where the coverlet and skirt meet.
I really like how Susan, over at
has done to her bedroom.
I hope mine turns out as nice.
~~~

Okay now... back to the curtains.

Yes!  I am cutting them in half.
I will explain later.
~~~
I have two narrow windows on either side of my king size bed and of course they are not centered...
{Yet another "thank you" to the builders}
Although my bedroom is not enormous (15x14) it is not as small as it appears in this picture. Those are not night stands... but good sized chests. I have a large armoire and a Secretary desk on wall opposite the bed.
I have extended the rod to give
the appearance of a larger,
 centered window.
~~~
I had a pair of burgundy panels up already and just needed the  one panel for the middle. But... I still want it to have the look of two panels.

{or it would tend look look a shower curtain}

So I cut it down the middle and I may add a trim to the leading edge.

So this is what it looks like...so far.

I think the burgundy panels are
a bit too scrunched???

The bedskirt will finish the look.

I hope to get it done soon.
(before I change back to my Winter bedding...)

Cash for Clunkers...I Qualify!!!

If my body were a car,
this is the time I would be thinking
about trading it in for a newer model...
~~~
"I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish, and my paint job is getting a little dull. My headlights are out of focus, and it's especially hard to see things up close. My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather. My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently.
~~~
But here's the worst of it --Almost every time I sneeze, cough or laugh, either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!!!" *

CASH FOR CLUNKERS... I QUALIFY !
How about You?
~~~
I fear the day will come { many years away...} when my loved ones will have to make the decision to collect Grandma's keys...
Faux "Ice Cream Sundae"
Looks good enough to eat!
Yes... it does look good enough to eat...but this "ice cream sundae" has no calories because it is not real! In fact it is made out of building materials and will last indefinitely.
~~~
Well... I'm off to the kitchen to make a real sundae. Low fat vanilla ice cream, Hostess 100 calories chocolate covered mini cupcakes...and of course... chocolate syrup!
~~
Not anywhere as pretty, but definitely better tasting.
~
YUM!!!
I know...I'm on a diet...isn't everybody?!

Bedding Bargains

I am always looking for a bargain...
aren't you?!

I stopped by Ross the other day and spotted some Laura Ashley sheets. These were a great score as I have been looking for sheets to go with the new quilt that I got at Wal-Mart...

Yes...I said Wal-Mart.

Why not check out the the new Better Homes and Gardens line at Wal-Mart. They have some pretty nice stuff. The curtains are even lined, and that makes a big difference. I got these "silk taffeta" polyester lined panels there.

I plan on making the easiest roman shades ever, and it is NO SEW! *not. one. stitch* It will be for my bathroom {that is what started this green and pink quest}. I will post the tutorial and pics of the finished project, as soon as I get them made...

It may not be too soon...

You could just get something basic and then add embellishments to get a higher end look. Once you have done that, most people won't know where you bought it... so why would you want to pay more than necessary?

These king sheets are too big for the queen pillows so I wrapped a rubber band around the end... remember when everyone was doing that with their curtains? To dress it up a bit I used a decoration that I actually make for my Hershey's candles.

I may have a few left on my website...maybe.

All the goodness of
and none of the calories
~~~~~
Looks very inviting...
...Now it is all rumpled up,
like someone just took a nap ;)
I'll show you the bathroom window treatment
as soon as I get it done...
No more having to actually go to the store...ugh!
Kinda looks like a TORNADO! (for real)
I was out looking for a faucet and light fixture and when I walked out of Home Depot this is what I saw.
Not sure what to think about it.
I have been freaked out about TORNADOES ever since we move to Texas five years ago. Spent the first two years gathering up all the animals and sitting in the bathtub every time we got a tornado warning.
That meant I had two Poms (one was blind and one was deaf), a 14 year old cat, and two Cockatiels in a large cage...all in a hot, muggy bathroom.
Of course we have air conditioning... but with two panting dogs (with bad breath), a restless moaning cat, and a smelly birdcage... even the air conditioner didn't help.
Did I mention that as soon as the
barometric pressure changes
I GET A MIGRAINE!??
I really don't need all those sirens blaring
or the pesky phone calls from the city...
I pretty much know before them.
Yes...I am in the tub, with the dogs,
and pillows, AND a migraine!
Well... by the time a got home (5 min.), I totally forgot about that weird cloud... after all I have treasures to unload.
I had shopped at Ross... Yes, I know that Ross is not nearly as cool as the other "cheapie" stores, but mine is not really so bad, well not too bad). I got a fabulous set of Laura Ashley king size sheets for under 30.00, and a sumptuous sage king size blanket for under 20.00.
Anyway... I never got the migraine so...
I guess that cloud was just that
...a cloud.
Marathon Blogging
My marathon blog search, in my quest for inspiration, lead me to this website ...
My Home Ideas......and I came across a short snippet on painting faux bricks on a walkway.
Well that reminded me that I had done the same thing to the floor of my potting shed , in my previous home, about seven years ago. It looked so real that people were always bending down to touch it... no kidding!
I will dig up that picture and then somehow get it on the computer so that I can share it with all of you. I will also give you the details on how I did it.
~~~

WOW!!! I guess I got the inspiration for my real first post!!!

Be sure and check back tomorrow to see my picture and I will also explain how I got this look.

Totally Overwhelmed!

I find that reading blogs...really good ones, can be addictive (or is it addicting?) and I found an abundance of good reads out there.
Well needless to say, I have been here for HOURS. Not only am totally intimidated, I fear that I will NEVER have anything clever or unique to say.
~~~
Hopefully I will get inspired soon...
I'm gonna try this blog thingy...
Ok...so for right now, I know I'm only talking to myself ... but that 's nothing new!
In fact I rather enjoy doing so because I usually agree with what's being said. ;)
So...I decided to go ahead and see if anyone else "out there" is interested in what I have to say. If not, then I will just entertain myself.
~~~

I will be back soon with something to say.
