Silk Ribbon Embroidery and Fairies



Today I want to share a really old craft
that many of you may not have 
heard about before.


It is amazing Silk Ribbon Embroidery
known as Stumpwork.
Not so pretty name for a very pretty result!

Stumpwork first became popular during the
Elizabethan period (1558–1603)
and is dimensional embroidery
It is done with beautiful silk ribbons and beading. 


I shared this sample of Stumpwork the other day.

I have seen this before, but never knew its name! Beautiful examples - not sure if I could do this, but I think it would be worth a try!

Stumpwork is something I have thought about trying but have not yet been brave enough. Thanks for sharing the beautiful work and information about it.

This is beautiful handwork. I did a small one years ago and it was easier than I thought it would be.Maybe I need to try again-of course I don't think I could ever have the patience to do the elaborate ones. Thanks for sharing.
