How do YOU respond
to being given a blog award?
When I first started blogging I noticed
a lot of well established blogs had some kind
of "award free/tag free" button on their sidebar.
I was curious as to what that was all about.
Hey, I would LOVE to get an award!
Then It happened...
In just one week I got about 3-4 awards.
All the same one, but from different bloggers.
So much bloggy love!
So now I was required to write a post sharing 7 things about me and then pass the award on to 15 other bloggers. I would write a few words about why I chose those fellow bloggers.
So here's my issue with that...
15 x 3= 45!
15 x 3= 45!
That is a LOT of blogs to have to write about and contact.
Also, I didn't want to hurt someones feelings
(mostly newbies) by not choosing them.
Also, I didn't want to hurt someones feelings
(mostly newbies) by not choosing them.
At that time I barely 100 followers!
Then... even before I got through that process,
I had two (2) more awards sitting in my inbox!
Uh oh....
Well I immediately saw the need for those
"award free/ tag free" buttons!
I was scrambling to accommodate the award rules...
and I was supposed to ask other people
to also be in this predicament?
Thanks, but no thanks.
So now when I get an award, I thank them
and explain that I have an "award/tag free blog".
and explain that I have an "award/tag free blog".
I always try to be as sensitive as possible.
Believe me, I never wanted to offend anybody!
BTW...
I would LOVE to get an award that was just that...
an award that acknowledges my blog.
Not one with strings attached.
I sometimes give out "you were featured" buttons at my blog party.
I mention that they are welcome to take them home
and put them on their sidebar. Most do.
But some do not... that is fine. I am not offended.
Please take a look at these other bloggers who have also posted about not responding to blog awards.
and some were of a "kinder nature".
The reader's comments are worth reading.
Finally...
I am posting about this because
a dear sweet blogger friend asked what
this "award free/tag free" button meant.
She said the button didn't link to anything.
She's right...
She's right...
I remember that when I first started blogging.
I also had that same question about those buttons.
So now that button will link to this post.
I hope you will all still like me,
I still like all of you!
xoxo Bunny Jean

I was alerted right after I started blogging to put a blurb on my sidebar otherwise that is all I would be doing! Wish I knew how to make a cute little sign like yours!
Thanks for sharing my post about blog awards and yes, it was strongly opinionated but I was drowning in awards and I felt horrible for not reciprocating and the guilt grew into resentment and finally when I got that last award I blew. I have only received two or three awards since then and I always chuckle to myself because clearly they are new and hadn't stumbled across that post. I kindly refer them to it.
I agree about having an award with no strings attached. That would be awesome.
Sounds like a great idea an Award with no strings attached, although I don't know exactly what you mean as I don't recall ever receiving one except for: I was Featured, even with you sweet lady. Thank you anyway. Hugs, FABBY
I totally hear you! Been meaning to make a button for my blog - just not sure the best way to do it. I really like yours! And you have a great idea about an award without strings attached. The "featured" buttons are very special but they are for one post/project. An award for the whole blog is a great idea!
When I first started blogging I received a few awards and I have to admit, it made my day! I haven't received any recently...maybe I have gotten boring!! lol! When they want to know something about me, the 7 things, I say to just read my blog...it's all there!!
Great post, Bunny!
XO,
Jane
Interesting. I just think "hey, it's my blog, I can do what I want" and I am flattered when I get awards. I don't feel like I have to do worry about passing it on. I just thank the person who gave it to me. But good to know about you and the other people who commented.
Thanks for this post. I have received many awards--I am honored but I just can't respond to all that!
I totally agree with you on this.
Most blogs are award free, so it's hard to find anybody to pass the award on to. I agree that if somebody gives you an award, it should be with no stipulations.
Thank you for posting this. I had a general idea of what an award/tag free blog was. Thanks to you I have a better knowledge as to why so many blogs have that button. Thank you again.
Have a great weekend.
I feel the same. It was great at first, but then becomes hard to keep up with!

Bunny Jean you are still loved! I have another one to pass out, Yes, it's wonderful to get them but a lot of work in sending them. So what do I do? I will complete this task and if any more come I am going to say thank you much but I don't have the time to do it all. I need to read folks post instead. I want to spend my computer time posting recipes and reading others. I'm reading not passing award. Good I said it........Have a great day my blogger friend. Andi the wednesday baker.blogspot.com
Hi Bunny Jean, this is a great post.
I never liked the awards. I'm just not into that kind of thing. I don't like how it makes some bloggers feel left out.
Barb ♥
Thanks everyone...
I would love to hear more of your opinions on this :)
I know that no one wants to hurt someones feelings. But then a lot of you don't want to pass this on to other bloggers and have them also be put in this same situation.
xoxo Bunny Jean
I am truly honored when a person thinks enuf of my blog to think of me when handing out awards.
I put them in a special place at the top of my blog, I thank the giver and that is all there is to it.
I've been blogging several years and had some beautiful awards...when my computer crashed a few yrs back, I lost them all, along with my blog roll. Sooo, I don't have many awards now, bwaaaaaa, so if anyone wants to send me one, I'll love it. :)
xoxo bj
Thanks Bj.... so you are saying that you accept the award but don't feel you have to pass them on? That would sure make it easier :) I am hearing back that a lot of bloggers do just that.
xoxo Bunny Jean
Great post, and super feed back in the comments. I have received a couple awards and just did nothing about them. I didn't want to get into all that and pass it along to others who then had to "get into all that"! ;0) I really appreciate informative posts like this that help new bloggers! Thanks BJ!!
